Any time you start using torrents, understand that you're taking some risks. There are numerous botnet malware and viruses that target torrents sites, attaching themselves to executables that might be downloaded, and sometimes attaching itself to streaming data, in the hopes that a later infection will get malware on your machine that will detect the other (bigger) piece of malware in streaming data.

Even if you always have antivirus software active, these sites can be targeted by quite OLD viruses/malware that are no longer commonly being seen by the detection agents, and thus, no longer have a signature in the daily/weekly virus/malware definitions.

You are never safe, just because you have anti-virus/anti-malware software.

It is your on-line habits that chiefly determine how safe you are.

Just... be warned.

(And dare anyone go into the porn side of that slop... those things are notorious for the worst sort of malware. You better not have an old dial-up modem in your machine, or you can expect charges to 1-900 #'s, some of which charge $50/min. (lol)

And.. if that happens to you, you will likely not be able to get out of the charges. You are always ultimately responsible for whats on your computer.)

So be careful, and avoid the stuff that is malware-infested.

I am a huge advocate of dumping your antivirus...and yes torrrents can be a risk
(but I've never had a problem). stream porn, DONT download it dummies lol... be smart
and do your homework....use open source software...and don't do things you know are
naughty on your network...
You will be fine....( oh yeah HBO is serious about it's trackers)

~snips the redacted image~
~

If I were redactiung stuff, it would have included all the mentions of 'xxx' aas well -- there's a small cultural difference between Germany and Canada that I often forget.

It makes me wonder, given Germany is also where my parents were born, why IO haven't gone back to visit.

~thinks suddenly of the $2000 return airfare~

Oh. Yeah, that.

Only made it cuz my kid going to college in Boston wanted to know how to set it up, and once I made it, thought I'd share (in case anyone here wanted to wreck their parents compy hahaha).

the level of paranoia is high around here...yes, if you want good ol fashioned dial-up speeds, you certainly could use a virtual box.
I should delete this thread and never post anything like this again....or argue with paranoids about anything computer related...what got everyone so jaded?

Or you can just use Popcorn-Time to stream movies and TV shows in 720p / 1080p (and sometimes higher) with a very high availability scale.
