I alaways forget that there are these barbaric countries in the world... where parents have to for pay the education of their children. I hope in Canada it's not going that way?
The government here subsidizes the cost of higher education (college and university)... In the USA, where typically you pay $10K-$20K/yr to attend, here in Canada, it's only $5K-$10K/yr.

It was 1981... and I was going to the University of Toronto. My tuition was all of $1800.00! Buying books was another $500.00 or so.
