24 (What is Sleep?)

Opening Statement:
Hello, everyone and especially my fellow/potential Amazon Prime holders! -Pardon if you didn't want to get tagged- (@Phenomenal, @Voakie , @EqAtOmBe , @✨101✨ ,@Breakfast , @Conquest, @QueenHeather, @Relax , @Shadow Fox) If you saw my poll that conducted how many people used Amazon Prime, this is the follow-up thread. On this thread, I will be revealing what I strongly believe is the BEST show ever: 24. This show features Kiefer Sutherland as its main character Jack Bauer, whom you will grow to love. On a side note, I know you are thinking this thread consists of so many words. Yes, I am aware of that. Normally, when someone is in awe of something, he/she is speechless and has "no words." Sorry, my bad, but this show is so great that there's just so much to say. It would appreciate if you could read with the same passion and joy that I experienced when creating this thread. Anyhow, let's begin.

24, created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran, is possibly the greatest American crime-thriller of all-time. And yes, I mean it. I've seen other shows that I thought were just amazingly good. Then, I stumbled onto this show via recommendation. The person--let's call this person 'John'--who recommended this show to me told that I would become instantly hooked and would not be able to stop watching all-night. My response? Overwhelming doubt. There was no way a TV show could simply keep me up all-night and erase all existing self-discipline. I "knew" that John was simply exaggerating and that no show can be watched for such consecutive long periods of time. And of course, I was wrong. I was willing to pull an all-nighter to watch this show to the end. Fortunately, self-discipline ruled, and I was able to turn off the show, stop watching, and go to sleep.

This show was aired on Fox. Fox originally ordered 13 episodes of this show of season 1, in case the show wasn't successful. The show is still being produced today. Also, Netflix originally had this show for streaming. Seeing the success of this show, Amazon paid Netflix to take the show off Netflix and put it on Amazon Prime video. Smart move for Amazon

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Brief Overview:
To clarify, 24 is a show that originally aired on Fox back in 2001. Now, I know what you're thinking, especially you younger ones: OMG, a show in 2001? That's got to be sooooo low quality and sooooo boring! Every season features a different plot and the same main cast, so don't worry about having to meet a whole new batch of characters every season. The seasons are interconnected in a way, so I'd say watching in order definitely matters. One interesting thing about this show is that all events occur in real-time.

Now, I'm sure being the professional agar players you all are, you know about real-time splitrunning Tongue Basically, what the show means by "All events occur in real-time" is exactly what it says. Nothing is sped up nor slowed down.

For example, let's say it takes 15 minutes for a specialist to diffuse a nuclear bomb. The show makes it so that it won't be 'till 15 minutes in real life go by that you will see the person successfully defuse the bomb. Why does this matter? Well, in most movies/shows I've watched, if a person starts defusing a bomb, the show will skip and literally 1 minute later, the bomb will be defused. See what I'm trying to say? (Bomb defusing example is made-up to serve as example). If you still don't get it, just watch the show, and you will instantly understand.

Next, in every season, there are exactly 24 episodes. Each episode represents 1 hour and actually is 1 hour long, if you include the commercials. Fortunately, for those who own the disk and have Amazon prime, no commercials! In fact, the only way you CAN watch 24 today is WITHOUT commercials because it's not longer airing live (duh). So each episode is approximately 42 minutes long.

The show makes brilliant use of split-screen imaging. What is this? Well, at certain times of the show--after every commercial break there used to be--the show will divide your monitor/TV screen into different segments. In those different segments, you can see different scenes, which are all happening real-time and at the same time as the other displayed scenes. Once again, hard to explain. You will understand as soon as you start watching the show. Here's an example:

Season 1 Main Plot (no spoilers):
This is the main plot of season one. Also, this isn't really a spoiler simply because this is something you learn basically five minutes into the show; additionally, you can read the back of the DVD case of season one and learn more than simply this. Anyway here's the MAIN plot (notice I said main... yes, there are subplots that are actually worth your time. Subplots worth my time? Mhm) :

It's the day of the California presidential primary--if you don't know what this is, just look it up. But basically what the primary is... It's a day where voters vote to determine who will be their political party nominee.

Anyway, let me restart:
It's the day of the California presidential primary, and senator David Palmer (played by Dennis Haysbert aka the All-State Guy) is one of the people hoping to get elected to become his party's nominee. CTU (Counter-Terrorist Unit) is informed that an assassination attempt will be made on David Palmer's life. CTU is also informed that there is a unknown mole (aka a traitor) within the CTU organization who is working against them. CTU agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) is tasked with stopping the attempt on Palmer's life. At the same time, he must find the mole by working together with the rest of CTU, which includes the mole. Problem is, who can he trust? Find out more by watching via DVD or Amazon Prime!

Departing Words:
One thing I noticed about this show is that using subtitles actually helps a lot. Like Netflix, Amazon Prime has subtitles. If you're using Amazon Prime, please read this message:

(**WARNING: If you are using Amazon Prime to watch this show commercial-free and free HD, when you click on the season you want to watch, there will be a scroll-down page of all the 24 episodes on that season. On the left, there will be a picture/thumbnail thingy and on the right, there will be a brief summary of that episode. AVOID THAT SUMMARY/SPOILER AT ALL COSTS!!!!!! I DID IT, AND SO CAN YOU)

Basically, what this show is: You take your favorite show (such as Breaking Bad). Tell yourself that Breaking Bad is one of the best shows ever, watch 24, and then watch your TV show standards get set higher than ever before. (Oh, man. I thought Breaking Bad was good. 24 is just a whole 'nother level!)

Last but not least, I know this is a forum meant for our treasured Agar.io, but on this thread, it would be awesome if we could get on-topic, SPOILER-FREE discussion about 24 amongst the people who decide to watch.

For example:
Person A: just finished watching episode 3, season 1.
Person B: yeah, me too. omg i didn't see that one coming
Person C: I love Amazon prime!
Person A & B: tru

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Trailer isn't anywhere near as epic as modern-day trailers. But at least the show is actually better than the trailer and not the other way around. So many movies are "all talk, no action" Here's to the greatest TV show in potentially all of TV, a spoiler-free trailer:

If you start the show, the first episode will be probably a meh episode like it was for me. But once you get to episode 2, it starts to get crazier. And as the show progresses, just when you thought things couldn't get any crazier, the show blows your expectations.

Hope you enjoy ~  Cool

I liked  [Image: thumbsup.png] simply because of the fact that you put a lot of time and effort into your post, although in my opinion it would have been easier and would have kept us less in suspense if you made a thread for discussion of the show directly instead of the Amazon Prime Poll before hand Tongue

I have Netflix and Amazon Prime, though I don't have much time to watch shows. I have only seen a few shows on Netflix: Avatar the Last Air Bender (I don't think they have it anymore, that was way back when I was eleven or twelve), Dare Devil (2 winter breaks ago), and Breaking Bad (loved it, that was last spring break.) Maybe a few others here and there but that's all I can recall at the moment.

As for Amazon Prime I don't know the password for the account (my dad's knows it lol), and I haven't really cared to see what's on it. I believe I watched some good ol' Sponge Bob on it when I was younger haha; I mainly use Prime to order things I need want.

Anyways last week me and one of my friends watched the first episode of a show called The Last Kingdom. Unlike most shows this show had a lot of shit go down in the first episode so now i'm already on Season One Episode Seven.

It's a really great show and I would highly recommend it, I would give more descriptions on what it's about or even post the trailer but I feel I don't have the need to do so...
...simply watch the first episode on Netflix and you will get hooked Wink

Btw what you said about how the mini descriptions on the episode playlist spoil things is so true! I never read them anymore.

@iAcid Once again thanks for you passionate and spoiler-free break down of 24, unlike some people who can juggle many shows at once, cough @karla cough, I must finish the The Last Kingdom first before moving on to anything else; once i'm done and if I still have time I'll look forward to watching 24  Big Grin

I was looking forward to this, and was already wonderimg if I'd be able to find thye show available somewhere else....... despite what you'd said.

And then I read the name of it, and all the wind left my sails.

I've already watched most of that. One of my co-workers at work liked the show so much, he'd make sure he was one of the first owners of the next season around. Smile And all of the rest of us mooched off him, so I think I've seen most of this show.

The last shows that I've found really cool are:

1. Lucifer (Yeah, the devil) The creator has a right &^%#@$'d take on how that "family" works. Almost every episode has a great chance of getting laughs out of you.
2. Training Day. This new show has suffered a serious blow with it's lead actor dying suddenly, so it's up in air whether it can survive that... but it's good.
3. Grimm (Sadly, it's done now...) A very cool extension of, and loosely based on "Grimm's Fairy Tales", it gave us awesome special effects, and a new way to have 'monsters' among us.

But by all means, I love hearing who likes what... Smile

So I hope some others will share their own personal faves?

How did you like the show?

It's just like you said... The first season, it was basically impossible to not binge-watch...

If you were REALLY able to control your own desires you would think. "Hey, slack off. There's only 24 episodes before I need to find something else to watch until next year."

But I thought I basically said it all, because when I said that we all lined up to borrow his DVD's of it, I really mean that. (lol)

It was a hard show to stop watching...

The plots did get a bit Stephen-Kingish for me, after about 4 seasons... (He's a great writer... but he could write 100 books with minimal material, because he has a system. And once your mind knows the system well, it's no longer surprised by the left-turns, but rather, they were expected even before you reached the end of the first chapter.)

Like any show that tries to make it's viewers make unexpected left-hand turns... there was a bunch of similarities in some of them, I thought, after watching enough. And... if I'm going to be completely honest, I think after one season (my co-worker agreed with me), most of us were no longer crazy about the show, he didn't buy the DVD at all, and we weren't too sad about that (no-one else stepped up to buy it instead).

It's still a great show, though... and deserving of respect.

But personally, I like something in a show that Hollywood will never really cater to -- a sense of reality.
(And which, in direct critique of myself... is missing in the 3 shows that I listed. lol!)

Hopefully. we'll get more people sharing the shows they liked. Smile

I think that that too, tells us a few things about the person relating it.

@Squirrel Not all people are smart like you and can therefore see the "left-turns"  Tongue

To everyone without a perfect IQ: Watch the show; you will never see what's coming

Also, I wouldn't really consider this a spoiler, given that it's just a trend with 24: (**BUT CLICK AT YOUR OWN RISK!!) there's no risk lol
