Unwanted spam.
#1
I would like to suggest to apply some antiflood or antispam plugin to the forums.
I'm relatively new here so i don't know if this has happened before, but it' the 3rd time attack already since I am registered here.
Last night spammer started 180 topics. No human being does that. Therefore maybe it is reasonable to limit the number of topics started by a newcomer to idk 3 or 10 a day in the first week or month after registration? It is just a loose sugestion to consider.

And now some technical blah blah. It's always better to remove all the spam for good (I see you do it, but this time it is still here despite the spammer's ban). Google bots (and other as well, by unfortunatelly G is the hegemon in searching) indexes this spam, and it may hurt visibility of forums in SERPs (search engine results page).

https://www.google.pl/search?q=site:http://agarioforums.net/+PPAP9.CoM

And a side note. For some reason often when I write a post and use a backspace key, instead of deleting the last character, my browser goes back to the previous page of the forum. Is it only me? It's very frustrating when you write a post for 10 minutes and then by accident it is lost... Sad

You have some decent ideas there, but don't worry... These Chinese spambots have visited before, and as I understand it, @Sora is about to bring down the anvil on dose pests. Big Grin

For example, limiting posts for noobs won't matter, as they would just sign up more new accts instead.

Don't worry. Just eb patient while @Sora gets it all done!

You are right. Patience is the key, but still, there must be a way to put a dumper on these bots.
The problem is, if forum is easy to spam, it will be added to more and more spamlists. And in consequence it may be spammed even more.

I agree. I was thinking of this but I wasn't really sure this would work. Maybe we'll just have to see how it will go.

Here's a clue for ya...

These Chinese Spambots all seem to be active, mostly, in the wee hours for EST/North Americans... so its the bots (sometimes me), and very few others usually around... which means the bots post the majority of the recent threads.

So to see the new stuff, go to "Forums" then "View Today's Posts", and go to the last page of results. That one will be mostly real stuff. then go backwards one, until you're well into the spam. At that point, you can either skim, or go to the 1st page instead.

It's been working for me, amyhow. Big Grin

Lol. I wondered where can I find a link to the newest posts (beside the little widget with like last 10 of them on the front page). I've never paid attention to this little drop-down menu under "Forums". Now I have and now I am like "how silly am I" Big Grin
Oh yes. The darkest place is under the candlestick...

I remember the days when I was new around here... There's a few things that took me awhile to find.

It was at least a few months before I realized that the 'AGF' thing in the header was actually a button that took you to Sora's private server game. :|

There's a few such things out there, that aren't completely intyuitive. ~cough~ For kicks, see if you can change your 'Member' (under your avatar), to something else. I changed muine to 'Furry Rodent'. Big Grin

Ha, got it.
Yeah, I wouldn't even try to mess with it since I didn't noticed this "Member" there. The only thing I pay attention to is actually nickname and avatar. The rest is less important for me.
Some useful stuff given on a plate, fair and square. Thanks Squirrel for a quick tutorial.

Are you accusing me of making neurons fire in your brain that allowed you to find this fairly well concealed option? ~raises an eyebrow~

Because I didn't tell ya what to do, or where to go... no clues at all!

(lol!)

Maybe you're allergic to ticking clocks?! (lol)

Next, try to "mention" someone in your post.

~tests his hypothesis by not pushing the button this time~

Ok, I would like to mention the person I replay to so he/she will be alerted, but I was always said anywhere on the Internet not to quote the whole post of his/her, especially when you answer just next to it. Just to avoid redundant clutter.
I simply don't do it this way.

Is there a way to to mention the person without quoting his/her answer?

If you want to mention a person, add an @ and then after it add the name of the person, like yours. @Lucyfer

For some members it doesn't work, so after the @ you have to put a ' and another ' after the name.
The person that you mention will get an alert.

fyi bot spammers are Korean (most likely state sponsored North doing hacker homework) not Chinese. I confess I like to translate the pages to see what they are saying...mostly online casino's, soccer betting, and for some reason playground safety regulations....

I must confess, I didn't really consider any other language than a Chinese one. (lol)

I'm guessing that you figured this out by copy & pasting text, using Google Translator, and picking Asian languages until something legible came back??

(lol)

That goes 'above and beyond', in my books.

But thanks for the eye-opener!

just install google translate on chrome (the best browser ever), and you can translate anything on any page with the click of a button...but I am a curious fellow, and do want to know where my spam is originating from....you'd be offended if it "looked" american to most people , but they thought it was Canadian (and it didn't even say "eh" or "davenport"). (like in Minnesota we have "hot dish" not "casserole").....good to do your due diligence lol
