Perhaps just because, internationally, it is thought that Canadians say "eh" a lot??

Sort of similar to the way Aussies say "oi" a lot.

To me, I use "eh" with people in foreign countries, just for my own personal amusement... again, furthering the stereotype.

In fact, I would not be surprised of most people who use it, are all thinking along the same lines as I am, and everyone is just poking fun at the uinternational commuity!
