I had to look up 'fauna', and my brain is still claiming, "Noooo, it means like, vegetation, mannn!"

And I read how the definition agrees with you -- that it refers to animal life, and my brain continues to say, "Noooo! Dude, I'm telling you, it means plants and :poop:!!!"
