They end up replying to a message that is from like.... a year ago, and the person they wrote to will probably never see what you said.

So when you post a message, if it's speaking to a specific person, quickly check the timestamp on their post, just to make sure no-one giggles at you... And if you give them (in this case, me) the middle-finger reflection in your monitor, they'll be none the wiser!

However, if you're speaking to the topic of the thread, not a person, go ahead and speak your mind!

This particular activity is otherwise known as "waking up a thread", (because it's been asleep for so long) and is a perfectly valid thing to do. If you have something new to speak to a subject, you should say it!
