Port the sun to PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch on May 25.

Dark Souls Remastered is headed to several platforms next month. This includes Switch, the first time the series has been made available on a Nintendo platform. Thanks to the Switch's portability, it's certainly the most novel way to play the remaster, but is it really your best option?

In the video above, we break down exactly how the Switch version stacks up to its cousins. We look at performance, online connectivity, and Switch extras like Amiibo functionalty--the new Solaire of Astora figure will let you perform the Praise the Sun emote with a tap. There's also a Switch network test coming before the game launches, which will give us a chance to further test how the console handles that all-important part of the Dark Souls experience.

The remaster adds a handful of quality-of-life improvements to all versions of the game, including a handy new bonfire in the Catacombs area. It also increases the online player count to six and adds Dark Souls 3's password matching system to let you easily meet up with friends. Of course, this is all on top of improved visuals and frame rate too, though the Switch versions is capped at 30 frames per second. The PS4 Pro, Xbox One X, and PC versions of the game can boost up to 4K resolution and 60 fps.

You can take a look at some PS4 Pro gameplay with those settings, or seemore of the game on Switch. And if you never played the original release, you can always revisit our review to get the lowdown.
